Happy Thanksgiving...

And yes, that is snow.

Cold Winter Storm Plus Sick Pony Equals......

It wasn't bad enough that the kids were all sick....the Moe Pony took sick as well. Ironically he came down with the same thing as the kids, upper respiratory infection...AKA the snots. On Tuesday I though he had a mild case of colic, lack of appetite, heavy breathing. Then the snots came and with the advice of a wonderful local woman (a Brit named Vicky, who is super nice!) I took his temp. Normal temp on a horse is 99-101. Moe was at 105.6. So we drove up to the only horse vet in our area (any vets reading this, please know there are business opportunities in our area for a large animal vet!) we picked up meds for the micro whinny.
Wednesday he was still sick, but doing better. We had put him in our backyard to keep him from infecting the other two horses.
Now comes the problem. Our yucky cold north wind started to blow in and the backyard has no shelter or protection from a below freezing wind. What's a family to do?
DUH!! Put the pony in the garage! The kids helped build a small pen in the garage and we went to the feedstore and purchased shavings, to the grins of the owner. We made a cozy spot with a heat lamp. At first Moe was nervous and neighed out the window. But after Caitlyn sat in the garage next to him and read him a bunch of books, he calmed down nicely.
Only in my world. Note to self, when I build a larger barn, make a quarantine stall!

Random Post

Yes, I haven't blogged recently!! But I have great excuses!! I had surgery to correct adhesions that have plagued me since fourth grade. I guess I couldn't put it off any longer! I am doing much better, but still am slow and sore....and a bit bored. I am also getting ready to do a craft fair this weekend....Wish me luck, I want to sell big so that I can spend all of my money on round bales of hay!! And my Aunt Vicki and Uncle Rob came to visit. They haven't been in our area since I was preggers with the twins!! It was wonderful to see them and know that my Aunt is fun and loving as ever, and that my Uncle really is Mr. Wonderful!! Conner also looks really good in Uncle Rob's glasses!!
Since I haven't been taking pictures, I am posting one of my naughty duck, Howard. He is gorgeous but very very naughty and somewhat cowardly. He will only chase you if your back is turned!! And then the other picture is of Conner when our washing machine broke. At one point, he was completely in the tub with the lid down. Gotta love my boys!! I am sure more interesting things will happen soon, after all, Thanksgiving is around the corner and a large turkey, Mom's four dogs and my three boys....something is bound to happen!

Trick or Treat

Trick or Treating was great. Steve stayed home with poor Jimmy and Oh-My and I took out the other three. The first house we went to, William marched right up, rang the bell and when the door opened...walked in. That's my boy! Then he became a crazy man. He was frantic about getting to the next house with a porch light on. He was unfazed by an spooky decoration or costume. Conner was put off a bit by some of the scarier things, but he wasn't about to be left behind! Caitlyn was a sweet sister and took and extra pumpkin around for Jimmy, telling every house, "This is for a sick brother." What fun we had. Conner wanted to go "another two hours." but we called it quits when they began to stumble. Luckily it was a fairly mild night for us, so this year, we didn't freeze!
