Cold Winter Storm Plus Sick Pony Equals......

It wasn't bad enough that the kids were all sick....the Moe Pony took sick as well. Ironically he came down with the same thing as the kids, upper respiratory infection...AKA the snots. On Tuesday I though he had a mild case of colic, lack of appetite, heavy breathing. Then the snots came and with the advice of a wonderful local woman (a Brit named Vicky, who is super nice!) I took his temp. Normal temp on a horse is 99-101. Moe was at 105.6. So we drove up to the only horse vet in our area (any vets reading this, please know there are business opportunities in our area for a large animal vet!) we picked up meds for the micro whinny.
Wednesday he was still sick, but doing better. We had put him in our backyard to keep him from infecting the other two horses.
Now comes the problem. Our yucky cold north wind started to blow in and the backyard has no shelter or protection from a below freezing wind. What's a family to do?
DUH!! Put the pony in the garage! The kids helped build a small pen in the garage and we went to the feedstore and purchased shavings, to the grins of the owner. We made a cozy spot with a heat lamp. At first Moe was nervous and neighed out the window. But after Caitlyn sat in the garage next to him and read him a bunch of books, he calmed down nicely.
Only in my world. Note to self, when I build a larger barn, make a quarantine stall!

Poor Moe! Glad he's got a nice warm house to stay in. LOL!
